The three steps shown above correspond to:

  -Measuring the CNT device
  -Making a connection to ground, before breaking the connection to measurement equipment.
  -The CNT device is now safely grounded so that the measuring equipment can be disconnected.

This type of make and break switch is often used when attaching measurement equipment to a wire-bonded nanoscale device. The three steps can be carried out in reverse order.
